An MP is urging the reversal of a “disgraceful” decision to refuse transport help to a 76-year-old man who has suffered multiple heart attacks.
Otley resident Arthur Walker, who also suffers from angina and sciatica, has had six heart attacks and two triple heart bypass operations.
But despite his ailments and the fact he received Patient Transport Service help for years while living in South Yorkshire, Mr Walker has now been told he “isn’t ill enough” to qualify for transport assistance.
MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) is calling on the Government and NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds to overturn the decision.
He said: “It would seem that Arthur should clearly qualify for transport assistance to and from hospital and it is concerning that he is either being denied this by NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds, or that national guidelines mean he does not qualify.”
