Two house fires leads to smoke alarm warning
A warning about the importance of working smoke alarms has been made this morning after firefighters were called to two house fires within hours of each other.
The female occupant had been woken by her smoke detector and discovered smoke in the kitchen.
The house was badly smokelogged, including fire damage to the kitchen, but the female occupant was able to escape and raise the alarm.
The woman living at the property had fallen asleep downstairs, but when she went to bed, discovered the bedroom was alight.
She had a smoke alarm but it was not working.
Neither women were injured in the blazes, and firefighters praised their quick actions in closing the doors to stop the fires from spreading.
