The wife of a Bradford businessman who went missing six years ago has made an emotional appeal for information about his whereabouts.

Sajid Saddique, 32, was last seen alive on Valentine’s Day in 2007 in the Asda car park in Manor Road, Shipley. His gold Volkswagen Bora was found there later that day.

He had left the family home in Heaton, where he lived with his wife Asma, 32, and three young children, to go to the bank and a business meeting and the last positive sighting of him was at 10.30am that morning.

Police are still treating his disappearance as a missing persons inquiry, although his wife now fears something bad happened to Mr Saddique on the day he disappeared.

“People think six years on maybe you feel better, but you don’t,” Mrs Saddique said. “You are never going to forget. The children are always asking where their dad is. What do you tell them?

“I tell them their dad is lost, but from that first day I thought something bad had happened. I think someone out there has done something untoward to him and he is no longer around.

“When someone passes away they can have a funeral and people can grieve, but we can’t do that. That is the reason we need to know.”

She believes the stress of her husband’s disappearance has contributed to her own health problems, which include losing her sight in one eye. She also told how he called her at 10.30am on that fateful morning, but she missed the call.

“I would do anything to go back and answer the phone as it may have been a call for help,” she said. “He didn’t come back at 12.30pm and his phone went to answerphone so I knew something was seriously wrong.

“I am appealing if there is someone or some people who have any information, not for myself, but for my children.

“There must be somebody who has a heart or a conscience who would give us information.”

Detective Inspector Steve Snow, who is leading the inquiry, said they could not “discount the fact that something dreadful may have happened to Sajid”.

“Until we have evidence or information to support that then we continue to be hopeful that he maybe located and found,” he added.

“We believe that someone in the Bradford community is withholding that vital piece of information or clue which would lead us to find out what happened or where Sajid is.”

Mr Saddique’s brother Majid said his brother was a “good character, down to earth and humble”.
