West Yorkshire immigration records are released
11:00am Wednesday 13th February 2013 in News
People in Bradford looking into their family history can browse a new collection of alien registration records from Leeds City Police.
Almost 3,000 cards, covering dates from about 1850 to about 1960, relate to immigrants registering in the Leeds area, which could include people who went on to settle in Bradford and Ilkley.
Graham Hebblethwaite (pictured), chief officer of West Yorkshire Joint Services, which oversees the work of the Archive Service, said: “This fascinating collection shows how people from many different countries sought and found temporary or permanent refuge in West Yorkshire and will provide valuable information for all kinds of research.”
