Four are arrested in raid on Bradford brothel
Parents and councillors have expressed their shock after a suspected brothel was uncovered by police on a Bradford cul-de-sac.
Officers raided a house on Melbourne Grove in Thornbury only yards from a day nursery and after-school club.
The cul-de-sac is home to several families with young children.
“My child goes to the nursery so it is the last thing I would want in the area.
“I am not naive to not know that these things do go on, but it is a quiet residential street.”
A dad dropping his child off at the nursery yesterday, who did not want to be named, said: “It is amazing, although it doesn’t surprise you what goes on these days.
“If the children were seeing the comings and goings there would be an issue.”
Coun Ghazanfer Khaliq (Lab, Bradford Moor) said: “Melbourne Grove is a small residential street and having activities like this is unacceptable.
“I know quite a few people who live in the area. It cannot be good to have children around. The fact there is a nursery on the corner makes it even worse.
“I am glad police have taken these steps and are making sure these things do not happen.”
Councillor Mohammed Shafiq (Lab, Bradford Moor) said one of the residents contacted him about the suspected brothel.
He added: “We warn these people setting these places up that there is no hiding place in Bradford Moor for them.”
A 32-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman and two women aged 22, were arrested on suspicion of managing or keeping a brothel for prostitution and remained in custody last night following Monday’s raid.
It is the second raid by Bradford vice officers in a fortnight.
Officers executed a warrant at a house in Napier Terrace, Bradford Moor, and arrested four women and a man on suspicion of keeping or managing a brothel, following complaints from residents.
