Historian to give talk on Otley rail route at Christchurch, Ilkley

Historian Mike Dixon will explore a little-known rail route to Otley in a talk at Christchurch, Ilkley, on Wednesday, February 20.

Mr Dixon will present a talk tracing the origins of the Burley-Arthington rail link, its working from 1865 to 1965, its demolition and gradual disappearance.

Using archive photographs, maps, satellite views and on-the-ground exploration, he will take the audience through a story embracing railway and social history, geography and industrial archaeology.

Tickets cost £4 from Christchurch Café. The talk begins at 7.30pm and is in aid of the church’s Raise the Roof campaign,
