Residents of 84 sheltered flats and bedsits in Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales are in shock after being told they are to lose their homes.
The residents of the 21 Yorkshire Housing units in Ingleton, 42 in Skipton and 21 in Grassington will be moved out between now and January 2016.
A phased closure will take place from April next year. Residents, including some in their 90s, began to be told last week.
In Skipton, Coun Robert Heseltine, the Craven District Council representative on the area committee for Yorkshire Housing, said it was a terrific blow.
He said following talks, he understood the decision had been made and the only consultation would be how they are managed.
Celia Cashman, Yorkshire Housing’s director of housing services, said: “Some are no longer fit for modern day living and are in very low demand.”
