The Lady Mayoress of Bradford Margaret Smith announces the Big Brew event at City Hall
Cancer Support Bradford & Airedale is calling on the community to dust off their coffee and tea pots as it stages its Big Brew next month.
And this year’s event marks a particularly special occasion for the charity, as it falls in its silver jubilee year.
The charity provides holistic support which helps to make a positive difference to the lives of more than 3,500 people affected by a cancer diagnosis.
The Big Brew campaign will run throughout March and anyone can support the fundraising effort by either organising a coffee morning or an afternoon tea event or by attending one.
Last year, the community raised £7,500 from Big Brew events which went directly to support people affected by a cancer diagnosis. This year the target is to raise at least £12,500. The Big Brew campaign is aiming to become as well-known as the Macmillan Coffee Morning and Marie Curie Blooming Tea Party.
And it will be officially unveiled by the Lady Mayoress of Bradford, Margaret Smith, at Bradford City Hall on February 22.
Linda Enderby, community fundraiser, said: “We could not have wished for a better way to launch our Big Brew Month and cannot thank the Lady Mayoress enough for her generous support of our silver jubilee campaign.
“We want the whole community to get involved, by hosting a Big Brew cake sale, coffee morning or afternoon tea event.”
Mrs Smith, said: “I am delighted to be hosting the launch of the Big Brew.
“The charity has supported patients and their families for the last 25 years and wants to make sure they are around for the next 25 years for everyone who needs them.
“I look forward to meeting people who pop in to City Hall for a cuppa.”
The event on February 22 will be held in the Banqueting Suite of City Hall from 10.30am to 2.30pm. The public are welcome to shop and browse a variety of stalls or simply enjoy a cup of tea.
