This oil painting by Bradford artist William Shackleton goes on display for the first time in 40 years at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery in Bradford from this Friday until April 1.
This will be the first time the painting has been seen in public since 1972 and forms part of a nationwide website called Your Paintings, which shows the entire UK national collection of oil paintings created by the BBC in partnership with the Public Catalogue Foundation.
One of them is A Love Lyric, Shackleton’s picture, said to be based on Robert Browning’s poem O Lyric Love.
Shackleton was born in Bradford in 1872. He was educated at Bradford Grammar School and Bradford Technical College. He won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in 1893.
