People across the district can apply for funds and support from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to ‘green-up’ and improve their neighbourhoods.

The RHS Yorkshire in Bloom development project offers a new £100,000 fund which will be distributed over the next three years to support grassroots community gardening in the region.

There are 80,000 community gardeners and 1,600 schools in Yorkshire who can apply for these funds which will help projects to create community gardens and growing spaces, improving pocket parks and the public spaces in towns and villages.

Small grants of up to £500 are available for groups that require start-up funding and for larger projects, gardening groups can apply for bigger funds between £5,000 and £15,000.

The deadline for the grant programme is March 15, 2013. For more information and to apply for a grant visit
