Police recovered £6,000 of Asian gold jewellery just a day after it was stolen in a burglary at a Keighley house.

Officers said the discovery of the jewellery showed what could be achieved when the police and community worked together.

Members of the local community had given officers a tip-off following the burglary in Ada Street, leading to the jewellery being found on Friday.

Inspector Tony Reed, who leads the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team, praised the people who got in touch for helping police recover the jewellery so fast.

He added: “We are very grateful to the assistance we received from the community. Local people have expressed their concerns about burglary and we have provided extra patrols in these areas to minimise their chances of becoming a victim.”

“There has been quite a big issue around the theft of gold and it has been a big concern to the Asian community so when there is a success like this we are keen to let people know.

“In the majority of cases like this, where people are arrested, it is information from the public that leads to the arrests. If the public can point us in the right direction we are always grateful because the community has more eyes and ears than we have.

“This is a good job all round, something we can take back to the community and show them that things are being done.

West Yorkshire Police recently launched Operation Scaldlock directly in response to the issue of jewellery robberies within the district’s Asian community.
