A table-tennis loving church minister is playing 100 matches to help raise cash for a faith centre’s refurbishment.

The Reverend Dr Roger Walton is taking on table tennis players young and old from across Yorkshire in his two-month challenge.

Dr Walton, the Methodist Church’s West Yorkshire district chairman, is raising money for Touchstone, a Bradford city centre organisation which brings people of different faiths together.

Touchstone is turning a vacant building, the former MacRory’s Bar in Easby Road, into its new premises.

Dr Walton said: “Building respect and understanding between different faiths is at the forefront of discipleship and the work of Touchstone is exemplary in this field.

“Some of the folk playing me will be children, some teenagers, some who haven’t played for years and some serious players. I just hope my arms are up to the table tennis challenge!”
