A new supermarket in Shipley would be a ‘nail in the coffin’ of the town centre, according to an objection to the plan.
Outline planning approval for a superstore at Airedale Mills, Salts Road, has been requested by Commercial Developments Projects Ltd.
The objection, listed on Bradford Council’s planning website, says: “To agree to a supermarket at this out-of-town location will do nothing but harm to Shipley town centre, from where it is bound to take much trade.”
The comment was made in a letter to the Council signed from Mr R S Watson, of Baildon.
The letter also raises concerns about congestion and adds: “Until something like a Shipley Eastern Bypass is in place, such developments can do nothing but harm to the local environment.
No other objections have yet been received.
