Baildon’s own Golden Girls, eight ladies who meet at the Malt Shovel pub, were treated like stars at its reopening following an £80,000 revamp.
Audrey Taylor, Maureen Pedder, Joan Poole, Betty Barr, Mavis Hodgson, Marjory Drew, Carol Warne and Karen Hudson have been visiting the pub since the 1960s. Audrey was a barmaid in the 1970s.
Ed Moss, general manager of the Malt Shovel, picked the women to officially reopen the pub because of their longstanding commitment to the pub and the local community.
He said: “The Golden Girls are absolutely fantastic! They visit every week and all of our regulars know them – they really are celebrities in their own right!”
