Work starts on Ogden Reservoir project

Work to strengthen a 150-year-old reservoir tunnel starts this week.

The 140-metre-long tunnel at Ogden Reservoir, near Denholme, remains an important part of the water system and Yorkshire Water hopes the work will ensure its future.

They are also strengthening the reservoir embankment by adding 3,500 tonnes of earth to its downstream face. The project, which involves several trees being removed, is due to end in November.

Tim Dyke, project manager, said: “Any work of this magnitude is always going to be noticeable, particularly at a popular site like Ogden, but we want to reassure all visitors to the site that their recreational fun should not in any way be impeded and we’ll work hard to complete the job as quickly as possible.”

The company has warned residents to be vigilant about bogus callers who might use the works as an excuse to talk their way into people’s homes.
