Royal Mail has come under fire from residents who say they have had no post for two weeks.

A clutch of residents living in Flower Garth, in Greengates, have spoken of their frustration at the lengthy disruption to their postal delivery.

Husband and wife, Irene, 70, and Brian Metcalf, 77, are concerned they have missed important letters, including one with details of a hospital appointment for Mr Metcalf.

Mrs Metcalf said: “I rang up last Thursday and they said the delay was down to the adverse weather conditions and because of health and safety issues.

“We’ve had groceries delivered no problem and people have been going in and out to work so I can’t understand it.

“We were waiting for a letter with details of a hospital appointment for my husband and after it didn’t arrive we had to ring the hospital to find out when it was.

“So we have missed an important letter and we are still waiting for post to come. I rang again on Monday and have had no response. It is health and safety gone mad.”

Neighbouring couple Robert and Barbara Burns said they had experienced the same problems and echoed the concerns of Mr and Mrs Metcalf.

Royal Mail said the delays were caused as a result of the heavy snowfall which hit the country over the past two weeks. This made it difficult to carry out the regular deliveries in areas of Bradford, including Flower Garth.

Felicity MacFarlane, a Royal Mail spokesman, said: “Full postal deliveries resumed yesterday at some addresses in Bradford’s BD10 postcode area, including Flower Garth Gardens, Greengates, and all outstanding mail has been delivered.

“Royal Mail apologises to customers in that area as we had been unable to deliver to some addresses over the last week due to adverse weather conditions.”
