A former reporter at the Telegraph & Argus has died aged 77.
Yorkshire-born Shirley Sobron, who was better known by her maiden name of Shirley Scott Beard, worked at the paper in the late 1950s and during this time she wrote a regular column with the pen name, Anne Riding.
After working for the paper for about six years she emigrated to Majorca where she met her husband Carlos Sobron, an architect, who died in 1992.
In Majorca she worked in the early 1960s as a reporter on the Majorca News, the first English language newspaper which was the forerunner of the Majorca Daily Bulletin.
In 1996 Mrs Sobron was diagnosed with cancer which she successfully battled but more recently she contended with yet another illness.
About 11 years ago, Don Williams, a long family friend, became her partner.
She leaves her sons Marcos and Juan Carlos and daughter Mar.
