Superfast train plan set to be unveiled
9:59am Monday 28th January 2013 in News
Plans for a new superfast railway linking London with Leeds and Manchester are due to be unveiled today.
The High Speed 2 (HS2) project could improve travel times to the capital from Ilkley, Bingley, Shipley and Bradford – and Keighley MP Kris Hopkins believes the scheme is vital to the economy and jobs in the North.
Now the Government is due to announce the Y-shaped route the railway line will follow when it is extended from Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds.
But Labour has said there are “worrying signs” that the Government’s controversial HS2 project will suffer delays.
The project, which will cost £32.7 billion in total, is expected to be finished by 2033.
Cutting journey times from the capital to Manchester to just 80 minutes, the 225mph passenger train is one of the coalition’s priority projects.
