Pupils at Greatwood School, Skipton, have their very own air raid shelter.

The Year 4 youngsters created the structure, using a tent frame and corrugated cardboard, as part of their topic on the Second World War.

They have also been learning about evacuees, the Blitz and rationing and are planning visits to the town’s Craven Museum and Eden Camp near Pickering.

“The children are really excited by the topic,” said class teacher Katherine Marshall.

“Many of their relatives have artefacts from that period and were involved in the war. It is personal history that is being brought alive.”
