Forecasters are predicting a snowfall of up to 10 centimetres.
Yellow weather warnings for both snow and ice were issued by the Met Office today, and are expected to be in force until at least 4am tomorrow.
Forecasters warned the snowfall could be 4 to 8cm thick, or up to 10cm over hilly areas.
A Met Office spokesman said the weather could cause disruption, particularly to travel.
Travel authority West Yorkshire Metro was last night reporting disruption to the Transdev 500 service from Keighley to Hebden Bridge, which was terminating at Oxenhope.

9:51pm

Drivers were reporting “horrendous” conditions on the roads as the snow started to fall.
Sara Khan said she was trying to get from Manningham Lane through the city centre at about 9.30pm but Shipley Airedale Road and Barkerend Road were in an awful state.
She said: “It’s honestly horrendous. It’s absolutely chock-a-block from both sides.”

9:50pm

Heavy snow began falling at around 9.30pm bringing chaos to the roads as drivers struggled to control vehicles on treacherous surfaces.

A heartwarming tail...

A dog was rescued after falling through ice on Yeadon Tarn.
The shivering border collie was clinging to the edge of a sheet of ice when firefighters got to him just before 7pm on Thursday.
Crews from Rawdon fire station’s Green Watch were called to the scene just after 6.30pm. They borrowed a boat and rowed out to get the dog, which was called Smithy.
Watch commander Steven Houldsworth said: “It was very cold and the dog was not making much effort to rescue itself because it was tired.
“It had walked out on the ice and then gone through it. The owner considered going to rescue it but he called us and we talked him out of it.”
He added: “There is no such thing as safe ice. Do not let dogs off leads near frozen ponds and lakes as thin ice is a danger to animals and their potential rescuers.”
The owners thanked the firefighters via West Yorkshire fire service’s website and Watch Commander Houldsworth said: “We want to say thank you for the compliment."

3:34pm

Bradford Council says it is ready and that roads will be gritted in advance.

Councillor Andrew Thornton (Lab, Royds), executive member for environment and sport, said: “The Council has its normal fleet of gritters ready to go and these will be available overnight and throughout the weekend.

"The council will salt all of the normal routes in advance of the snow.”

3:33pm

Bradford is set to be hit by heavy snowfall today, warned the Met Office, with 15 centimetres predicted for some of the district.

An amber alert - the second highest bad weather warning - is in place for the West Yorkshire region.

Snow is expected to start falling in Bradford anytime now, and is forecast to get heavier at 6pm.

Explanation is that despite paying huge sums to the council in business rates, businesses have to pay extra to have their bins emptied which may be to the council or a private waste company. Businesses get NOTHING from the council.

Heavy snow now

Roads are bad to and from the city centre. Not a single grittier in sight for last three hours.

Outer ring road is also rather bad as traffic crawling to a halt.

Traffic slowing down and coming to a standstill on other roads too.

4x4 drivers are coping ok but the rear wheel drive cars are struggling.

Too many idiots over revving the vehicles which cause skidding, loss of control and eventual incidents.

Yet this snow is not that bad. Most colder, snowier countries get tonnes more then us but as always the UK authorities are poorly prepared.

Triple dip recession here we come.

Roads blocked. Poor handlimg of snow issues. Blame the snow for a recession. Who put these pathetic MP's and councillors in power? Oh holy pooh we did. Don't you all think its time to vote out or kick out these people. They not fit to lead a stray dog astray let alone run a tap.

No political party is fit for purpose. Only way is to stand up yourself as an independent with an agenda to make each town and city great again.
