A Bradford City fan in Australia has launched a Facebook campaign to convince his wife to let him fly across the world to watch the club’s Capital One Cup final against Swansea at Wembley next month.

David Bowers, of Melbourne, yesterday posted a photograph of himself on the social networking site, wearing a claret and amber scarf and holding a sign saying: “My wife says if I get one million likes I can go see Bradford City at Wembley (I am in Australia).”

Less than 12 hours after sharing the picture, more than 284,000 people across the world had ‘liked’ the picture, which was accompanied by the message: “I’m originally from Bradford and now live in Melbourne, Australia, but I have been a City fan for as long as I can remember.

“Please help me get to Wembley like our awesome Bradford City!”

Messages flooded in from countries including Moldova, Bolivia and Bulgaria, with most offering Mr Bowers ‘good luck’ in his quest.

However, one member, Daniel Thornton wrote: “You can soon get another wife but not another chance to see Bradford in the League Cup final!”

In his latest Facebook post, Mr Bowers seemed optimistic he could make it to Wembley for the match on Sunday, February 24.

He said: “Ok so said I was going to bed an hour ago, but I have just reached 250,000 likes. That’s a quarter of my target, looks like I’d better start looking for flights!”

Meanwhile, it has been revealed Bradford’s allocation of around 32,000 tickets for the clash should go on sale next Wednesday, with details being released as soon as they are ratified by the Football League.

Bantams director of operations David Baldwin said the club was planning a ticket sales launch.

And supporters in far-flung places, including Australia, say they eagerly awaiting the announcement after booking flights.

Daniel Sweeney, of Idle, who moved to Perth five years ago, said he was worried as he would not be able to join the queues at Valley Parade when tickets go on sale.

“I imagine they will be a bit like gold dust, everyone’s going to want one,” he said.

“I used to go to every home and away game when I lived in Bradford. I really don’t want to miss this.”

Simon Wood, of Karratha, said he was “desperate” to get hold of tickets after booking flights to arrive in London on Friday, February 22.

Rivals Swansea have already revealed they have an allocation of 32,401 tickets for the final, with adult prices set at £40, £56, £72, £90 and a limited number at £100. Concessions are priced at £20, £28, £36, £45 and £50. Prices are fixed by Wembley.
