Rock royalty will play in the home of literary royalty when a singer who helped shape American music in the 1970s comes to Haworth.
Patti Smith shot to fame in the 1970s with her debut album Horses, considered one of the best albums of its time.
Now the singer has signed up to play the Old Schoolroom in April. The gig came about after Smith, a huge fan of the Bronte sisters, visited Haworth last year, and offered to play to raise funds for the museum Bronte Parsonage Museum.
The 80 tickets sold out within two days of the gig being announced on Smith’s website.
As a fan of the sisters, the star will relish playing the schoolroom, built by Patrick Bronte in 1832.
Jenna Holmes, Arts Officer at the museum, said: “We’re delighted that Patti Smith is supporting the museum and will host this special performance in Haworth. It is yet another example of the ways in which the Brontës’ extraordinary legacy influences all aspects of contemporary culture.”
‘An evening of Words and Music with Patti Smith and Tony Shanahan’ will take place at the Old Schoolroom at 8pm on Friday, April 19.
