Trading standards warning over bargain buys

Trading Standards officials are warning Bradford people who are tempted to buy electrical goods from the back of vans not to be so hasty despite wanting a bargain.

Although a new television at a knock-down price might be hard to resist, it could well turn out to be a scam, according to Chief Officer of West Yorkshire Trading Standards Graham Hebblethwaite (pictured).

He said itinerant traders are selling DVD players and other electrical appliances from the back of vans. “It’s only when the consumer unwraps the TV or goods at home that it becomes clear that they have not received the item they have contracted for.”

There are plenty of dubious looking items in many retail outlets (usually standing behind the counter gazing at a smartphone), seriously, selling illegal and dangerous electrical items,is like selling illegal drugs, plenty of profit and very little in the way of penalties in the unlikely event that you are caught.

They've closed the shops in town centre and now the poor beggars arent allowed to trade from their vehicles.

Supermarket burgers with holmewood strays in them...what next.

Yes there is an element of Del boys selling inferior products from fags, food, clothing and televisions etc.
Take a wander to Cannon Mills, take a wonder to the pound shops...loads of returned items from other retailers on sale....the entire system is a scam.

Take a look on the various Bradford selling pages on Facebook...full of fakes. Look at gumtree and other local classifieds..won't take you much hunting to come across potential stolen and fake goods.

Trading standards officers are a massive joke...I speak from experience and can say they do not have the resources to investigate much unless it'll get publicity.

Purchased a computer from a computer shop in town...the guy used inferior products. Complained to trading standards...they wrote to him and the guy shut up shop and ran off. He scammed hundreds of shoppers and they know exactly who he is and where he lives...but powerless to do owt. No faith in this useless bully organisation which chases small time del boys rather then huge international gangs.

Ps pop into any DIY shop in Bradford and its suburbs. I have known tradesmen avoid certain shops as they sell inferior electrical cables and poor grade cement etc. nothing happens to these shops and they are springing up all over the show.

Not So Simple, the last times I've contacted Trading Standards I was passed on to other organisations such as Citizens Advice I do not think Trading Standards are interested in consumers any more.
