Lord Mayor set to start sprinkling his sunshine
2:21pm Sunday 20th January 2013 in News
The Lord Mayor of Bradford is hosting a Sprinkle Sunshine Day part of his civic appeal for the year.
Councillor Dale Smith announced when he took office back in May that he wanted to “sprinkle sunshine” across the district by sharing any funds raised among many local charities and organisations.
To support this year’s appeal the Council is holding its own day of activity and fundraising on Wednesday, where local authority staff will participate in raising funds for the appeal in their own time.
There will also be a raffle with a sunshine twist – packets of sunflower seeds to grow your own 'little pot of sunshine'. Those who buy a packet of seeds will be entered into a prize draw to win tea with the Lord Mayor. Seeds will be on sale at some Council receptions for members of the public. The City Hall clock tower will also be lit up in yellow to mark the occasion.
Planned activities for Sprinkle Sunshine Day include a yoga session before work, lunchtime card making workshop, a lunchtime Bokwa aerobics class and a lunchtime city centre jog, as well as an after work pub-style quiz.
A number of teams have also organised their own fundraising activities such as fancy dress, shared buffet lunches and lunchtime quizzes.
Members of the public will be able to join in the fun and donate to the appeal by having a go on a climbing wall in City Park, which will be provided by the Council's Adventure Unit – weather permitting.
To tie in with Sprinkle Sunshine Day volunteers will be collecting donations from pantomime goers at the Alhambra as well.
Lord Mayor Dale Smith said: “The Sprinkle Sunshine Appeal has already distributed over £35,000 to local charities and organisations.”
Anyone who knows of a local charity or organisation that could benefit from the funds raised, please contact the Lord Mayor's Appeal office by

The Sprinkle Sunshine Appeal will continue until May 2013, when Coun Smith’s term of office ends.
