Bradford social enterprise's open letter to PM over EU plans
11:00am Saturday 19th January 2013 in News
A social enterprise has written an open letter to the Prime Minister asking him to consider the impact of any proposed changes to UK membership of the European Union on organisations such as theirs funded by the European Commission.
Career Europe is a division of Aspire-i Ltd, a social enterprise based in Bradford, whose aim is to improve lives through learning and work.
They operate in the social sphere of careers guidance and employability programmes.
Their letter to David Cameron says: “We offer valuable employment in the city.
“For the past 20 years, Careers Europe, originally funded as a national resource, has operated as the UK’s representative in the Euroguidance network, which is currently part of the Lifelong Learning programme of the European Commission.
“Members of our staff regularly attend meetings across a total of 34 European countries, as well as attending international meetings at the Education and Culture DG in Brussels, sharing expertise and helping to internationalise guidance and counselling policies.
“We are looking forward to working on more social mobility projects under the new Europe 2020 strategy. Europe brings all of us the opportunity of mobility across European boundaries – and is not just about immigration. It offers us all the possibility of work and study beyond the UK, and all of the opportunity and expertise that comes with cooperation.”
