Shipley boy's Everest cake is the tops!

Shipley schoolboy Adrian Halliday went the extra mile with a project on explorers by producing a Mount Everest cake – conquered by a marzipan Sir Edmund Hillary!

His headteacher Phil Travis could not believe his mince pies when eight-year-old Adrian struggled in on the first day of term with the massive rock-bun sculpture.

“I’ve been teaching for over 30 years and I never seen anything like it,” said Mr Travis of Shipley CofE Primary School on Otley Road.

“It’s so unusual and very well made with rock buns sprinkled with icing sugar to make snow.

“His class are doing the topic of explorers and adventurers as part of the International Primary Curriculum and in the past we’ve had plenty of volcanoes, but never anything like Adrian’s edible structure.

“The only thing you can’t eat is the Union Jack flag.

“I’ve spoken to his mum Claire and I think they did it as a bit of a family project – it’s a fantastic effort!”
