Jessops shop in Bradford city centre to close
5:56pm Friday 11th January 2013 in News
The Jessops camera shop in Bradford city centre is set to close along with all of the stores in the stricken camera chain, administrators have announced.
Staff at the Bradford store are among 1,370 people to lose their jobs nationally as the group collapsed.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which was appointed to the group on Wednesday, said it would begin the process of shutting the 187-store network.
The administrators said further job losses are likely at the group’s head office in Leicester.
Jessops is the first high-profile retail casualty of 2013, after suffering from online competition and a boom in camera phones in recent years, hitting demand for digital cameras.
In Yorkshire and the North East, 15 stores closed today, meaning 106 redundancies in the region.
Rob Hunt, joint administrator and partner at PwC said: “It is apparent that we cannot continue to trade and as a result we have had to make the difficult decision to begin the closure of all 187 Jessops stores at the close of business today. This is an extremely sad day.”

As all my busses go from Market Street and never need the stops at bottom of Leeds Road I have no need to pass through that area.

It's a shame that another well known brand is about to disappear.
Diversification is a key to success and keeping up with the times.
I wonder how long it'll be until a new business opens up in its place. Please god do not let the council find a new tenant as it will remain empty for years.
When you shop there, park wherever you want. Middle of the road, wherever. Don't worry about the impact on other road users.
And they might charge you VAT on your purchase but perhaps they won't be VAT registered so the money won't get to HMRC. But it's ok. You know they're untouchable.

Many more businesses will shut because they haven't negotiated the online area, or simply cannot compete with the likes of amazon.
Waterstones is Bradford will go this year. The Starbucks there is earmarked for closure.

Will those loosing their jobs be demonised as scroungers now? I doubt the ignorant and prejudiced will be able to control themselves.

But the writing has been on the wall for a long tiime and is not surprising following the demise of film, online selling and the rapid increase of mobiles being used as a the sole camera, almost making a stand alone camera redundant!
I'll hazard a guess that even the independent camera shops are struggling to stay afloat.

Off topic: it's 'losing' NOT 'loosing' (and, while we're at it, 'you're' or 'you are' NOT 'your'). Like everyone else my spelling ain't perfect but these misspelt words crop up almost every day on here!

Room for another pound shop in Bradford.

My sympathies to the shop's employees. I hope they find something else soon.

A shame of yet another High Street loss.

I'm wondering why no closing sale and moving goods back to their warehouse if they might be going to continue on line, we will have to wait and see.

I was, in fact, just trying to draw people's attention to a couple of regularly misspelt words. If I was in the business of correcting everyone's spelling and grammatical errors - mine included - I'd need to be on this site 24/7 (seemingly like you). Personally, if someone pointed out that I unwittingly and routinely got something wrong I'd thank them for it rather than be indignant about it.
