A 21-year-old man was last night behind bars awaiting a prison sentence after pleading guilty to causing the death of a Bradford schoolboy, Bilal Khizar, by driving dangerously.
Zain Khan also admitted dangerous driving after running down 12-year-old Bilal, failing to stop after an accident and lying to the police, saying he was not in the car.
His barrister, Simon Csoka QC, conceded at Bradford Crown Court yesterday that Khan was going to jail when he is sentenced on February 7.
“It is simply a matter of length,” Mr Csoka said, after requesting a probation service report for Khan.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC said: “The victim’s family and the public will demand effective sentencing in this case.”
Khan pleaded guilty to causing the death of Bradford Academy pupil Bilal by driving dangerously on Rooley Lane, Bierley, Bradford, on October 6 last year.
He admitted dangerous driving in a Seat car between Rooley Lane and the A58 Whitehall Road, Cleckheaton, and perverting the course of public justice, between October 5 and 9, by falsely representing that a Seat car had been stolen before it hit Bilal and that he was not in it at the time.
Khan pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident on Rooley Lane and after another accident on Whitehall Road.
