Security experts are spotlighting the vital role of designers in reducing burglary rates in West Yorkshire, including Bradford.
Secured by Design (SBD), an initiative from the Association of Chief Police Officers, uses innovative architecture and materials to make criminals feel vulnerable.
The principles of the scheme, which include designing pathways to prevent blind spots and laying out housing estates so residents can see their surroundings and look out for each other, have been applied to a number of developments in the county.
Research of housing in West Yorkshire suggests developments built to SBD standards have reduced levels of crime, fear of crime and visual signs of disorder.
