Bradford women wishing to enter this year’s Miss West Yorkshire competition have until January 20 to sign up.

Organiser Alexandra Devine said she was keen to encourage women from the district to take part in the event held at Grappolo’s Restaurant, Huddersfield, on Monday, March 18.

She said: “We are looking for the winner to be the girl who can best represent the region at Miss England.

“Modern day pageants are very different from that of old. There is no longer a swimsuit round and there’s great emphasis on charitable and environmental causes and building confidence in the girls participating.”

The competition is open to women who live, work, study or were born in West Yorkshire and are aged 17 to 24. The prize list includes entry into the Miss England semi-finals, with a chance to go on to Miss World.
