Black ice caused travel misery across the Bradford district today.
And the weather conditions meant many schools closed or opened late.

Police warned travellers to take extreme care after an “exceptionally high amount” of accidents caused by icy and foggy conditions.

Accidents and Emergency departments in the district have also experienced a massive increase in injuries today with Airedale Hospital reporting four-times as many patients as normal.
Airedale A&E consultant Meg Crossley said: “The extra patients are slips, trips and falls. People have been caught out because it did not look like it was icy.
“The forecast for the weekend is for the weather to be warmer, but if it happens again the message would like to put out is for people to think before they head out and ask themselves if their journey is really necessary.”
A Bradford Teaching Hospitals spokesman said at lunchtime: “Bradford Royal Infirmary’s emergency department is experiencing high demand of its services due to the hazardous icy conditions throughout the city.
“We have seen a huge increase in weather-related injuries from slips, trips and falls as well as an increase in factures.
“We are making every effort to treat patients as quickly as possible but would urge people who don’t have an obvious life-threatening illness or injury to consider accessing advice and treatment from non-emergency organisations such as NHS Direct, the local pharmacist or GP surgery, or by visiting a local walk-in centre.
“We are urging people to take care and only come to the BRI’s A&E department if it is a medical emergency.”

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service has also cancelled its outpatient service to Bradford hospital clinics today. Hospital outpatient services are running as normal but patients who are expecting to travel by ambulance and have no alternative travel arrangements will have their hospital appointments rearranged.
