Police were last night investigating the death of a man at a car repair business in Keighley.

The 32-year-old, of Great Horton, Bradford, is understood to have died at the scene of the incident at the Autocraft Accident Repair Centre on the Knowle Spring Industrial Estate yesterday morning.

Two other people were also injured in the incident which involved a vehicle which was being worked on in the garage.

The dead man, who locals said was called Mark, was employed at Autocraft.

Police were called to the firm at about 10.40am following a report of an industrial accident.

South Street was temporarily closed to traffic in order to allow a Yorkshire Air Ambulance to land.

Several emergency vehicles were also involved, including fire engines, ambulance, a response vehicle and a hazardous area response team.

Paramedics gave medical treatment to the other two people involved, one described as “walking wounded” and the other who was reported to have suffered a leg injury.

Police later confirmed that the incident had occurred during “the movement of a vehicle that was being worked on at the premises”.

Shocked workers at Autocraft yesterday did not want to speak the Telegraph & Argus about the tragedy.

But the dead man was described by the boss of a nearby business as being a “really nice chap”.

Arif Khan, who runs the Ultimate Hand Car Wash in South Street, said the man had recently begun visiting the car wash.

Mr Khan said: “He was a bubbly sort of kid. If you went in there you'd leave with a smile on your face.”

Last night Councillor John Godward (Lab, Great Horton) said he was unaware of the incident but expressed his sympathy to the dead man’s family.

He said: “I am very saddened to learn that this has happened. And it is just before Christmas, so that must be particularly devastating for those who knew him.”

Councillor Abid Hussain (Ind, Keighley Central) also expressed his sorrow at the tragedy.

“I am really sorry to hear this. I have great sympathy for his family,” he said.

“If the family needs any help then we will see what we can do for them.”

Police last night said the dead man’s name would not be released until his relatives have been traced.

A report will be sent to the Bradford Coroner and an inquest will be held at a later to establish the cause of his death.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Airedale and North Bradford Police on 101.
