Police have stepped up patrols following stone-throwing attacks by yobs on buses, including one on a new flagship service between Bradford and Leeds.

One bus had a window smashed when it was struck by missiles thrown by four youths at the junction of Amberley Street and Leeds Road in Bradford Moor.

Two days later, a number 72 Hyperlink bendy-bus was hit with stones at the junction of Leeds Road and Moorside Place, Bradford Moor.

Bus company First said it had no plans to alter services due to the attacks, but is working with police to stop further incidents.

Sergeant Matthew Walker, of the Bowling, Barkerend and Bradford Moor Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have focused our patrols in the area and have been liaising with the bus company in relation to the incidents it has experienced.

“Officers have also been speaking to teenagers in the area and we are working hard to identify the individuals responsible.

“Action is also being taken alongside our partners to remove rubble from outside a commercial premises near to where these offences have been occurring.”

A First spokesman said: “Periodically we suffer anti-social behaviour from a mindless minority who think it is okay to throw stones at buses.

“We do not plan to alter our services because of these incidents and would only do so if all other avenues of solving these mindless acts of anti-social behaviour failed.”

Police received the first report at 3.15pm on Friday, November 23, while the second report came in at 4.48pm on Sunday, November 25.

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
