The centre of Bradford will be getting into the festive spirit next week as a Christmas market with dozens of stalls comes to the city.

It will feature more than 40 stalls and takes place between 9am and 5pm, from Thursday, November 29, to Sunday, December 2.

There will be stalls on Darley Street, Bank Street, Kirkgate and Tyrrel Street offering a host of Christmas gift ideas. Visitors can pick up decorations for Christmas trees, toy gifts for children, plus hampers and socks.

There will be craft stalls, as well as hand-made bath bombs, soaps and gifts. In addition there will be food stalls selling pies, pizzas, pancakes, samosas and toasties as well as food to take home such as artisan breads, pickles, jams and sweets.

To add to the festive atmosphere on Saturday, December 1, between noon and 4pm there will be street entertainment in City Park, and people are encouraged to bring children to meet the ‘Elf Inspectorate’, encounter angels on stilts and walking snowballs.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Bradford Council’s executive member with responsibility for culture, said: “There will be a great selection of stalls, with something for everyone and a fantastic opportunity to shop for Christmas presents.”

Following the market, an ice sculpture trail will make its home in City Park from Saturday, December 15, until the ice melts, where crystal clear ice sculptures will bring to life the story of a little fox who is looking for Santa.

The sculptures will be produced by Sandinyoureye, the same company behind the Darwin sand sculpture in 2009, and people can see an ice artist reveal the figures from within a block of solid ice from noon until 4pm on Saturday, December 15.
