A cheeky calendar has gone on sale to raise money for a hospital ward in Bradford which treats people with blood disorders.

It is hoped it will raise thousands of pounds to add to the £20,000 already raised by the family and friends of 49-year-old Josie Buckley, of Wibsey.

Josie was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in November 2010 and had chemotherapy on ward seven at Bradford Royal Infirmary. She is now one year into remission.

Josie’s old school friend Shirley Taylor, 49, of Horton Bank Top, has been the driving force behind the fundraising drive for the Annette Fox Leukaemia Research Fund, a charity which supports ward seven.

Shirley, a catering assistant in the Hub cafe at BRI, features in “Ye Olde Barmaids” calendar, along with other female friends of Josie.

A calendar produced last year featuring their partners raised £1,500 and now the women hope they can better this.

Shirley said: “The guys did one last year so we thought it only fair that we did it this year. It is very cheeky – especially March!”

Shirley and her friends are also busy organising the first Annette Fox Service of Celebration and Remembrance on Saturday, December 1, from 10.30am in Victoria Hall, Saltaire.

About 200 people are expected to attend the event which will celebrate or remember the life of a loved one. Entrance is by ticket only, which are free, but a donation is asked for.

Gift tags featuring personal messages will be hung on a Christmas tree and there will be a roll call of the names of the people whose life is being celebrated or remembered.

The calendar is on sale for £4.99 from Michelle Adam at the fund office on ward seven at BRI. Call Michelle on (01274) 364168 or e-mail michelle.adam@bthft.nhs.uk.
