More than 30 groups across the district are set to receive a share of almost £130,00 to help run projects that benefit young people.

Applications have been submitted to Bradford Council's Youth Opportunity Fund, a pot of £250,000 available to groups in the district this year in a series of funding rounds.

The money is split across the district’s five constituency, so a total of £50,000 is available to groups in each area.

Out of a total of 50 bids, 33 were being recommended for funding by grants advisory groups, for amounts varying from £1,000 to £5,000.

These include: Bradford East - £5,000 to Womenzone Community Centre to provide social activities for young people including computer games, aerobics, yoga and well-being workshops, as well as providing learning workshops in core subjects Bradford South - £5,000 to Bradford Phab Club to run four film-making workshops which will result in a film festival to celebrate the work of the young people involved. The young people will learn new skills including working with a video camera, photography, costume and make-up design, acting, role playing, music, sound effects, special effects and art skills.

Bradford West - £5,000 to Toller Youth Cafe for projects to encourage young people to focus on sustainability and recycling, such as sessions in menu planning and Come Dine With Me activities to promote cohesion, fun and healthy eating, as well as for a new oven, hob and cafe furniture Keighley - £4,999.99 to Your Music Enterprise which aims to build young people’s skills in a music studio environment such as engineering and producing and to teach other young people the skills and confidence that can take them on to a musical career Shipley - £5,000 to Shipley Youth Cafe to increase the number of activities available for young people to participate in, encourage a greater number to become members of the youth cafe and to run a tuck shop.

Final decisions on the funding were being made this week and next by four of the five individual area committees. Keighley Area Committee met last month to approve three grants with a total of just over £9,000. Applications for a third round of funding are expected to be determined in January.
