A series of police raids in Bradford have uncovered three firearms and tens of thousands of pounds in suspected class A drugs.

Four arrests have been made during the raids across the city, in which two handguns and a shotgun were recovered, along with ammunition and a bulletproof vest.

In all, police raided 11 addresses in the Bradford district across the weekend and into yesterday in an ongoing operation.

The swoops began when officers arrested a 30-year-old man in Rydal Road, Frizinghall, after suspected heroin worth about £50,000 was discovered in a vehicle.

He appeared before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

A further raid took place at an address in Sandsend Close, Chellow Grange, which led to the recovery of a handgun and an estimated £40,000 of suspected heroin.

A large quantity of ammunition and a bulletproof vest was also discovered at the address and three people, aged 30, 29 and 25, were later arrested in connection with the find.

All have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Yesterday, officers attended an address in Leeds Road, where a shotgun and a handgun were seized. Inquiries are ongoing in relation to the find.

Chief Inspector Dan Greenwood, of the Bradford District Community Safety Partnership, said yesterday: “We have visited a total of 11 addresses in various locations across the Bradford District.

“Each followed information supplied to us from the local community and intelligence we have gathered during our proactive operations.

“The community support is continuing to build and people are seeing the results in their neighbourhoods as we take action.

“Residents want to see firearms and drugs removed from their area and they are showing their confidence in the police by telling us when and where it is happening and those they suspect of being involved.

“We remain committed to removing negative role models from our streets and bringing them to justice.

“We will not allow the minority to threaten the way of life of decent members of the community and this latest work simply highlights our ongoing efforts in achieving this.

“If you have information about those who possess and supply drugs or firearms in your area, please let us know immediately and we can act on this.

“You can call us anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
