Firefighters in Bradford faced incidents of violence and vandalism during Bonfire Night.

An officer at Fairweather Green station suffered minor injuries after being hit with a flying half-brick as yobs attacked a crew damping down a bonfire near the junction of Spencer Road and Harlow Road, Lidget Green, at 7pm yesterday.

The same crew also attended a house fire and two cars in flames.

Fireworks shoved through the letterbox caused a blaze at an empty terraced property in Leyburn Street, Manningham, at 10.30pm which was safely contained before it could spread to adjoining homes.

Earlier at 9.27pm a year-old Skoda Fabia was set alight in Milford Place, Heaton, after a concrete slab was hurled though its back window, followed by fireworks.

And about 400 yards away in Silk Street, Manningham, a Blue Vauxhall Astra was found engulfed in flames at 1.45am, although it is suspected it was a stolen and dumped vehicle.

Across the area firecrews attended some two dozen bonfire-related call-outs on what is traditionally the biggest night of the year for problem blazes.
