Olympic success post boxes are staying gold

Post boxes celebrating Olympic and Paralympic successes will remain gold permanently in celebration of their phenomenal success, the Royal Mail announced yesterday.

That includes those boxes to honour the achievements of paralympic archer Danielle Brown (Skipton), triathlete Alistair Brownlee (Horsforth) and Paralympic cyclist David Stone (Rawdon).

A total of 110 boxes have been painted across the UK.

And many have now become cherished local landmarks in their own right with people visiting them and posting their pictures on social media sites.

Steve McGuinness, Royal Mail’s Delivery Director for North and West Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted at the way people took to this simple idea. The gold post boxes gave communities even more opportunity to mark the successes and became a part of local celebrations of London 2012.”
