Five escape injury as shots fired at Holme Wood house
7:00am Tuesday 30th October 2012 in News By Steve Wright, Crime Reporter
The house in Muirhead Drive, Holme Wood, that was shot at over the weekend
A family escaped unhurt after shots were fired at their house in what police believe was a targeted attack.
A window was shattered and a door damaged when a shotgun was discharged on a Bradford estate.
Three young children and two women are understood to have been inside the semi-detached house in Muirhead Drive, Holme Wood.
Police said they were called shortly after 2am on Sunday to reports of damage to a door and window, believed to have been caused by a firearm. Officers found it to be consistent with a shotgun discharge. No-one was injured.
Detective Inspector Chris Gibson said yesterday: “At this stage, the motive is unclear and we are working to establish the full circumstances. The nature of the incident, however, indicates that this was a targeted attack.
“Those responsible are believed to have left the scene in a 4x4 vehicle.
“This vehicle collided with a parked Ford Fiesta outside the address before leaving the scene and will likely have sustained some damage.
“We are trying to locate this vehicle and ascertain who its occupants were.
“I would urge anyone with information to contact us on the non-emergency 101, or via Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.”
Neighbourhood Policing Team officers were yesterday carrying out reassurance patrols and speaking to residents.
One neighbour said three young children, said to be two babies and a nine-year-old, were in the house when the shots were fired.
A front window was broken and the front door damaged in the attack.
The house is said to belong to a couple aged in their 50s. Three of their grandchildren were apparently staying at the house on the night.
The resident, who did not want to be named, said one of the two women also believed to be in the house is thought to be the children’s grandmother.
“It is unbelievable, it’s mental,” he said.
“It is a random attack, they are a normal, hard-working couple.
“These guys are totally innocent.”
