A man extinguished a bin on fire which had been left against the front door of his flat.
Keighley firefighters were called to the flat in Mornington Street, Keighley, at about 11pm on Tuesday following reports of a bin fire.
A West Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said a bin was believed to have been placed against the door of the flat and deliberately set on fire.
The spokesman added: “Initially we were given the wrong address so that delayed us getting there, and when we got there the owner had actually put it out himself.”
The spokesman said the man, believed to be in his late 20s, had been alerted to the fire after it had set off the smoke alarm in his flat.
He said the fire did not spread to the flat.
