Funeral to be held for murdered Bradford man Clement Desmier
7:00am Wednesday 24th October 2012 in News
Family and friends will this week gather for the funeral of a man found murdered at his Bradford home.
Clement ‘Butch’ Desmier was found dead on August 23 at his home in Rowlestone Rise, Greengates.
Mr Desmier, 68, a father and grandfather, had died of multiple injuries.
His funeral, and a celebration of his life, will be held at Rawdon Crematorium at 12.20pm on Friday.
Flowers will be provided by the family, but donations in his memory can be made to the British Heart Foundation.
Among the lines of inquiry being pursued by detectives is that Mr Desmier might have been murdered by a burglar or burglars who knew he had a sideline selling cigarettes.
Since his death, police have issued a series of appeals. They released CCTV images of Mr Desmier shopping in Shipley town centre the day before his body was found.
They have also distributed 10,000 posters in the area and put appeals on Facebook and Twitter urging anyone with information to get in touch.
Crimestoppers has offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the pensioner’s death.
In August, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, but was later released without charge.
The detective leading the investigation this month told an inquest it could be some time before anyone is charged over the matter.
Detective Superintendent Mark Ridley told Bradford Coroner’s Court on October 11 that the circumstances of what happened were still to be established.
Anyone with information should contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
Information can also be sent via text to a police SMS service on 07786 200805.
