County fire crews are top fundraisers

West Yorkshire Fire Service has been named Charity Fundraising Brigade of the Year at the National Spirit of Fire Awards in London.

The service was awarded the accolade in front of a star-studded audience by The Fire Fighters Charity.

West Yorkshire charity representatives, Watch Commander Paul Austin and Crew Commander Stuart Wilson, were invited to a Downing Street reception where they met Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, before attending the awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel.

West Yorkshire Chief Fire Officer Simon Pilling (pictured) said: “I am incredibly proud that West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service staff have been recognised by The Fire Fighters Charity in this way. Many individuals from around the organisation devote a great deal of their own time to ensure that an exciting calendar of charity events takes place. Everyone who is involved in fundraising should be very proud of this fantastic achievement.”
