Police have launched a crackdown on motorists who misuse a car-share lane.
The lane, on the A650 between Dudley Hill roundabout and Knowles Lane was designed to slash journey times and cut congestion. The scheme has provoked a mixed reaction, with some saying the road should be widened in order for real improvements to be made.
Now police have taken action in response to a concerns and have fined more than a dozen drivers for breaking the rules. A police spokesman said: “As a result of community concerns and a number of near miss collisions, Roads Policing Officers carried out enforcement on the lane at Dudley Hill. Thirteen drivers were found to be using the lane in contravention of the Traffic Order and were issued Fixed Penalty Notices. Further enforcement will be taking place in future.”
