New appeal in pub robbery

Detectives have made a fresh appeal for information about a brutal robbery at a pub.

The licensee of the Black Horse Inn at Clifton, Brighouse, was knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked by two masked men as he secured the premises at 11.30pm on Sunday.

At least two other suspects forced their way in through the front door as the licensee's wife tried to bar their way. She was forced to flee to an interior room while the raiders took about £440 cash takings from the bar.

Police still want to hear from anyone who saw two cars - a silver Mercedes and a red Volkswagen Golf - which may have been used by the robbers.

The Mercedes left the scene at speed and is thought to have been spotted soon after in Bradford Road, Brighouse, heading towards Bradford.

The Golf, which had been stolen, crashed into a wall near to the pub at around the time of the robbery. It is being forensically examined.

Detective Inspector Tony Nicholson, of Calderdale CID, said that customers who had been in the pub earlier that evening had come forward but others were still being urged to contact police.

He said the licensee and his wife were still badly shaken by their ordeal but had suffered no lasting effects.

The suspects were all wearing dark clothing and balaclava masks. Anyone with information is asked to contact Calderdale CID on (01422) 337085, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
