City set to miss out on Thompson

City look like being beaten in the race to sign their top transfer target - Garry Thompson.

The Morecambe winger has been in talks with Stuart McCall but seems certain to now turn the Bantams down.

League One outfit Scunthorpe are thought to have seen off a host of other clubs to nail the in-demand wideman.

Iron boss Nigel Adkins refused to confirm a deal had been done for the 27-year-old, who is available on a free transfer.

But he said: "I am looking to bring in a right winger who is dynamic and who can provide service into the box.

"He is on a Bosman' and there are several other clubs who have offered him a contract.

"He has come back to us though via his agent and said he wants to sign for us."

McCall, meanwhile, won't be bullied into bringing the wrong type of players to Valley Parade.

Agents are knocking down his door offering deals but he insists City must hold out for quality, even if it means they miss out on chosen targets.

That appears to have been the case with Thompson.

"I've been encouraged with the talks we've had but teams from higher divisions can always come in and scupper us," McCall said.

"I could have signed a dozen players by now but they wouldn't be the right ones.

"We've had a couple of discussions with a couple more but nothing is going to happen in the short term.

"The better players have options so we have to wait and see."

No great surprise!!
He was our no 1 target for the summer, he was going to be blown away by the size of our crowds and the quality of our Management????
Now on to target number 2, surely he will be impressed by the above????
2 Months later on to target No 25....yep hes over the moon with the crowds and the quality of management....but then again, who wouldnt playing at Farsley!!!!

Why do you bother turning up at VP? For you to spend your money on a season ticket, then look to find the negative in everything related to City, shows what a real sad-act you are.

You obviously have it in for the current regime at the club, so why don't you enlighten us as to what you would do so differently at City, given the limited resources they have.

Worth remembering that clever managers don't reveal there transfer targets as they alert other clubs! Only clubs looking to generate interest in there players release this information. Morecambe did it back in January and now the very unprofessional Huddersfield Town have done it with Beckett.

I thought it was to so he could end his career with his hometown club & rightly or wrongly we allowed him to do this. Also what was the problem with Windass & Weatherall -I've not heard of any ill feeling between the two

Windass has just signed on at 'Ull for an extra year, so there's as much chance of him dropping down 3 (or 4) divisions as there is Beags dragging his 'light-relief' behind off the Soccer Night couch to taking up moped training classes!

Eagles on the right, Holmes on the left and Doyle at RB/centre-mid? Less dream team, more dream-on team. Being realistic rather than pessimistic, there are any number of clubs from the Championship through to League 1 who would gladly snap up any of those guys in a breath. It would be fantasic though, as we'd p1ss this league and Captain Not-So Sensible would choke on his rythmn stick!
