Stu will not tolerate City slackers

Stuart McCall will come down hard on any City players that enjoy their summer break to excess.

McCall was unhappy that several turned up for pre-season last year in less than tip-top shape.

And he has made it clear that he will not accept a repeat when the squad returns to training on July 1.

While the City boss wants the players to let off some steam during the off-season, he expects them to come back fit and ready for action.

Each player has been given an individual fitness programme to follow during the summer and McCall will not stand for any slacking.

"There were a few let themselves down last summer," he admitted. "We had to have a little splinter group doing their own running when we started off because they weren't up to joining in with the rest.

"That won't happen again and I want all of them starting at a similar level physically.

"It's changed since my day as a player when everyone used to come back half a stone overweight. We'd all spend the first week being sick because the only thing we did was run.

"Now we want to get into ball work early on and start working on things and obviously you've got to have a decent level of fitness to do that."

McCall has been pleased with the improvement in Omar Daley's fitness over the season. He was one of those who struggled at the start.

Barry Conlon, having signed a new six-month deal, will be another one the manager will be keeping a close eye on.

"He needs to come back in a better physical shape than before so he can put himself up for selection early on," added McCall. "But you've seen how he has improved markedly in that area during the season.

"Of course central midfielders and lads like Kyle Nix are going to be able to run for a lot longer than strikers but you must be up to a certain level.

"There's no need spending three weeks of pre-season running because you're not gaining anything from that."

I mean, there in the lowest division in the football league arnt they? That could be why they suck.
A little help for you:
There should be they're (short for they are) and arnt should be aren't (short for are not).
Eight out of ten for effort, but only one for attainment. You must try harder.

Don't apologise, 10th in div 4 is FACT, although breaking even for the first time in 8 years, and seeing us potentially AGAIN be the biggest club in our division deems us as a club in progression, not decline. CTID
I know we shouldn't acknowledge any comment by SENSIBASTARD but Darryl makes a valid point in response. Perhaps the negatives on this site should take a look back at the start of last season and how many players that came to CITY were those that STU was chasing?. Considering most the players came on recommendation I think he did a bloody good job. Judge him and his backroom staff after next season when the team will have been put together from his own list. I feel GOOD !!

So what if we are, Rochdale and Stockport will ratify, it doesn't matter which division you're in, if you have success then it's a happy time for fans, I SO hope we can see and feel that success again, it might not be the Champions League, but I really don't care, success is success, and I feel we've levelled out now, and good times are right around the corner. Complete twaddle as per. Sheff U have a conditioning coach, Sm's job at Sheffield was as a coach, that was taking the managers directives and working on them at the training ground, sometimes adding a personal twist, sometimes using own initiative, but fitness is not a job attributed to coaches in the modern game. Even City in the 4th division use a conditioning coach and don't waste the time and efforts of someone helping with tactics. Ongoing fitness is monitored and implemented by the club and both manager and 1st team coach are nvolved if and when necessary but to attempt another twisted blemish is just the pathetic mind of a silly girl, again. I'm sure Brian Kidd would love to have his pedigree as a tactician reduced to the level of a gym instructor. Any facts for us yet silly girl?

Even if it isn't true, the thought of Daley leaving has just brightened up my day. The thought of Donny winning at Wembley also sends a warm sensation to special places.

With regards to the story, I am not one to criticise McGod but it does seem to suggest that he may have tolerated a bit of slacking this season which you just would'nt expect from someone with his winning mentality. Either that or the T&A really do have nothing to report.

contract with noone wanting to take him off our hands

there is of course the route of "by mutual consent"

Daley has form on this front: was it at PRESTON shortly after they sold Ricardo Fuller that Daley left by mutual consent!!

will need to check the Ricardo Fuller bit but certainly DALEY HAS DONE IT BEFORE AND PLEASE MAY HE DO IT AGAIN!
