McCall gets a foot in door

Stuart McCall was stepping up City's transfer trail today by meeting two potential signings.

The Bantams chief is keeping the identity of his targets under wraps as he looks to bring in around six new faces for next season but he insists his rebuilding plans are well underway.

McCall has already held talks with Huddersfield hitman Luke Beckett, who is currently away on holiday as he ponders City's interest.

Morecambe winger Garry Thompson and Mansfield striker Michael Boulding are also understood to be on the wanted list, though City will face stiff competition for both.

McCall said: "I'm encouraged with the way things are going but I'm not going to get carried away.

"You've got to give players time to make their decisions. Players who are of a good quality don't have to rush in to anything.

"The level of player we are looking for will have other clubs chasing them but the ones we are after would give us a really good shot at being in the top three.

"We've been doing a lot of work and hopefully some of the targets we've already spoken to have been convinced that this is the club for them.

"We're aiming high but realistically high. If we miss out on a couple then we'll at least have given it a right go but if we get them it will be a real eye-opener for people. We've got our foot in the door."

Thompson, who has ignored a lucrative deal to stay at Morecambe, is believed to be interesting League Two champions MK Dons as well as Darlington, while ambitious Boulding - also wanted by former club Grimsby - would love to step up to the Championship.

Beckett said: "I've been in and out of the team for both my seasons at Huddersfield and, at my age, I need regular football.

"Signing a three-year contract looked like the right move for me at the time but if I do leave the club, I'll probably look for a one-year deal and review things after that."

McCall has made one summer signing so far - Harrogate Town goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin - but he is not worried about being rushed into doing business.

"There are people away on holiday at this time or some we are eyeing up still playing in the play-offs," said the City boss.

"I could go out now and get a dozen new players but are they better than what we've got?

"Obviously there comes a time when you have to put a time scale on it and I would love to get one or two signed within the next few weeks.

"But it's not how quick they come, it's about making sure they are the right ones."

City will also be looking for a new physio as Steve Redmond, who has done the job for the last 13 years, has been told his contract will not be renewed at the end of the month.

Ricky 76 barrowford, I just assumed you were in the area with one of the tarmac gangs looking for a buck or two. Hope you saw the news yesterday that 28,000 tickets were sold at Leeds. Come on lads admit you are supporting a lame duck.

If some of you put as much effort into actually supporting the club as you do typing sensless rubbish in here imagine how great an atmosphere it would be for the players maybe a new direction would be to bring back the old songs from the bradford end and lets try to raise the noise levals for more than 30 seconds and actually lift the players instead of this building them up pre season only to then say oh but i knew he was this or that it really annoys true fans to read some of this tripe and as for having a go at Mark Lawn he was supporting this club before many of you were born possibly show the man some respect for what he and everyone at the club we all love is doing and trying to do

If only 25 were down there this morning it shows the correct position. What were you doing there ricky 76 working there. If a true fan you would have got a ticket before 15th. No problem with selling an alleged 9,000. Only proves more fools than one would have thought. I assume they will be bringing in scrutineers from Zimbabwe to oversee it and give the figures out. Gentleman Jim - What is a 'babycham or even "Yooohooo over here on" which I suppose explains a lot about you.

JM Can you keep it a little shorter in verbals. You will get a free ticket, I have already told you that irrespective of the number sold. Sorry but I can't take your offer up as no doubt I will be sent a couple for the area opposite you although unless the pre match entertainment and meal does not improve I doubt that I will use them myself.

Tyker: You are again distorting things. Whats this about an alleged Court case? I can now understand why you are taken in so easy when you seem to convert things in your head which have never been said.

Senseless is nothing but an anorak with a personal grievance against ML for some perceived loss or damage he sustained: like a sacking.

Don't bother:he has nothing positive to say about anything BCAFC and came on these forums just to give vent to his personal feelings of loss which he attributes to ML.

do you know mate - isn't about time that when you make a stupid assertion and pointless argument, like why everyone is apparently walking away from the club, when people argue back you just ignore and move onto another angle to abuse the club? You don't argue your points very well. If you really believe your own B.S, why not back up your arguments?

Is there a point to arguing back about season ticket sales? you'll just move onto something else...

contrary to your belief, Bradford City are not stupid. for you to suggest that they are laying off staff like Redders and Pepper (despite the fact you were claming they walked a bit ago) because season tickets haven't hit the expected heights is insulting their intelligence. The only person worried about the season ticket sales is you!

The latest figure shows City are half way there to the 9,000 target. This week was the deadline for renewing your seat if you want to guarantee it, and I was one of many who bought my ticket this week. I waited until the last possible minute because I'm not rich enough to pay £300 (two tickets) just like that.

now it's free for all, all remaining seats are anyones. You'll now find that supporters who were hanging on to move to a better seat (and considering how much our crowds went up last season, it's blindingly obvious many who started going will probably want to change seats now they know VP better)can do so. It's likely to be busy at ticket office today as it's the first weekend since.

there will also be a late rush as the many supporters who are waiting to see the figure before committing, in the hope of doing BOGOF with a friend, will get their's. I have no doubt in my mind we'll reach 9,000 and I bet the club are very confident.

just finally - this is my personal view. If City don't get to 9,000 (and as I say they will) I for one will not be bothered if I don't get another season ticket free. I've still bought mine at a fantastic price and if any friends of mine want my free one fine, but it may end up not used or only occasionally.

Life will go on, city will still have a great season.

ps mr sensible you can have my free one if you like, as long as it's the opposite side of the stadium from me!

I was having a beer, game a darts and some monkey nuts as you do and chatting to my mate, who's a blade from Sheffield and we got onto who's your hero (Yes, conversation was getting thin and I was rat-arsed) but it got me pondering and I thought long and hard (you couldn't choose family members, by the way) and it hit me. Stuart McCall. I said Colin, it's Stuart McCall, without a doubt. How ace it is that we've not only got the lad who started out with us, came back to take us to the Premier and now has come to save us, in charge, but also Jakes and two Claret and Amber through and through Chairman. It's ace isn't it. Stuart's his own bloke, he's proved himself beyond doubt before at City and as Col added, was loved by the Blades fans and is sadly missed there. He's going to make some changes and I'm sure they'll be for the best. I don't think there's any 'Long Night of the Swords' going on here. Just some tweaking and changes to get BCFC back in the right direction. It's absolutely ace to have your footballing heroes in charge of your club. Certainly more than most other clubs have got. I can't wait for next season to begin. Life's ace - GOING UP.

Well done and best wishes to both Redmond and Pepper.
Crikey Mr Notso Sensible post at 10.04 today (obviously working hard for his employers if he has any!), made some sense.
Skippy's at 3.21pm today (also a good employee if anyone is that desperate) is utter drivel. On what basis can 'it' make such an assertion to much BUSH you kangaroo.
