Rhodes: New appointment McCall's call

Stuart McCall will have the final say on City's next youth-team boss.

McCall will sit down with joint-chairmen Julian Rhodes and Mark Lawn on Friday to discuss potential names to take over from Jon Pepper, who left Valley Parade on Monday.

But Rhodes insists it will be McCall's shout on who they plump for.

He believes the new youth chief will have to work closely with the senior coaching team - and therefore should be appointed by them.

Rhodes said: "There has always been an argument that youth development shouldn't have anything to do with the first team. Managers come and go at clubs but the youth programme remains.

"That may be all right up to the age of 16 when you are talking about developing lads through the centre of excellence but you are hoping that players in the youth team will go on to appear for the first team.

"So whoever is in charge of the youth side surely has to be appointed by the first-team manager. It's a very important position from that point.

"The ball is in Stuart's court who he wants. He has suggested a few names and we've had some inquiries.

"He's got ideas and Mark's got ideas but ultimately it will be down to Stuart to make his own appointment."

Pepper was brought in by Nicky Law in 2002, initially as youth-development officer, and has worked closely with Peter Horne in improving a department that had been neglected. City have been criticised for not producing enough of their own players - a brief that will be high on the agenda for whoever takes up the post.

Rhodes added: "We've tried to get the younger players in the reserves early in recent years and hopefully on to the first team, so there is going to be a big cross-over between the youth-team manager and Wayne (Jacobs) and Wethers (David Wetherall).

"There's a few interested names being thrown about, although there is no immediate call to make a decision. As long as we have the new man in place for the start of pre-season on July 1.

"We want to make sure we get the right appointment."

Sounds Good, just looking in the non league and Stuart Fielding from forrest Green scored 34 goals last year why don't we ever take a look at these players? Seems Crewe are looking at him!

It will be quite an interesting appointment. I have seen a few old faces around Valley Parade since McCall took over that will probably be interested. Mark Ellis and John Hendrie to name 2. Mark Ellis assistant at Guisley I would imagine would be interested. Not sure what John Hendrie is up to these days, media work?
Whatever the decision I am sure Stuart will make the right choice form the club.

What has Fleetwood got to do with finding a Youth Team coach. Anyway Fleetwood turned down a move in January to a League club as he was loyal to Forest Green as they gave him the chance in football. Probably available at a fee so we're out of the reckoning. I bring this particular subject up a number of times about looking at non league players as there isn't a great deal of difference in those leagues and bottom tier of football league nowadays.

I am very qualified to take over the Manager's job at City as I know nothing about football so there would not have to be many changes. I would have Shaun, richmond as my Assistant. Could we do any worse and if you think so prove it.

Another one to ignore. Just keeps banging the same drum without changing the tune....boring!

I have had disagreements with plenty of people over the last 12 months, but I will not tolerate (and therefore will not respond to) anyone that doesn't back up their arguments.

I suggest we all do the same.

Thank you Mr Baldwin. That is all I wanted to do, was bring attention to the quality of the service provided by the stewards the club hire, what I have experienced on a couple of occasions, but more often, what I have witnessed. If I know they have a job to do, and if I see them get a little lets say heavy handed to people that ARE causing trouble I have no qualms at all. But in general as you can see on here from other people making comments, they do have a reputation amongst City supporters and from outside from away from Valley Parade. I am glad you are investigating this and I do hope something positive will come of this and will improve people's experience at Valley Parade, for both home and away supporters. Sorry for my late response to yours as I am rarely online on an evening and never in during the day.
Regards to other posters, I can not understand the aggression towards people like Shaun and Mr Sensible. I just cant understand why some people got so uptight with me bringing this into the open about the levels at which we, I mean by the people do go to matches, past present or future in to be treated fairer and better. I guess the only people that would moan at that are the actual stewards, who else would get so aggresive to me for pointing out something that needed addressing for the betterment of Bradford City and in general the way supporters are treated. And for the last time, I did go by the correct channels originally by contacted the club, but to no avail. So I had no option to bring this into the public, and that is what I shall do, and if anyone else has an ounce of self respect, they will no longer put up with this oppresion.
