Godwin pens three-year contract

Wayne Godwin signed a new three-year deal and declared: Bradford feels like home.

The lively hooker is "over the moon" at becoming the latest player to pledge his long-term future to Bradford.

Godwin arrived from Hull FC on a 12-month contract last winter but has soon impressed Steve McNamara, winning a fresh offer to stay until at least 2011.

The England international admits he set out not only to show his talent but ensure he had also joined the right club, having been harshly released by Hull and Wigan in consecutive seasons.

"I just wanted to get back to enjoying my rugby again while proving to Macca and Bradford what I'm all about," explained Godwin.

"For whatever reason, it's just not worked out at my last two clubs over the last couple of years and I wanted to get settled and stay at a place where I'm happy.

"I couldn't be more happy than I am here. The Bulls have given me a three-year extension so hopefully I've started to show what I can do and it's great to sort my long-term future."

He follows Michael Platt, Paul Deacon and Glenn Morrison in agreeing fresh contracts at Grattan Stadium.

Godwin has only missed one game so far, largely coming off the bench to replace former Wigan team-mate Terry Newton but also making five starts.

The dummy half was at his scampering best against Catalans on Sunday, cutting the Frenchmen to pieces with his darting runs and creativity.

It was a sign of the 26-year-old's growing influence but Godwin insists: "Players are always really critical of themselves and I am especially so.

"I always want to improve and work on my game. I feel I'm doing that constantly with Macca and working with Tez (Newton) again.

"He's playing me well, putting me on at the right times and I'm feeling good when I get out there.

"But that's big credit to all the lads. You're only as good as the players around you and we've got a great squad full of internationals. That makes it so much easier."

Godwin - an outside bet for the World Cup - added: "There's a lot more to come.

"I wanted to take my game to the next level and feel I can do that with Bradford and the coaches here.

"I want to win trophies and there's no better club at which to do that, while Macca's shown great confidence in me with this deal. I'm ready to repay him."

McNamara said: "We're delighted.

"Wayne came here initially for 12 months with a view to seeing if he liked us and we liked him but he's been everything we could have asked for.

"His attitude to training and games is just first class, his form's been good and we think Wayne's best football is still ahead of him so it's great we've got him for another three years."

Took a couple of games to settle in but looking every bit as dangerous as Henderson did from dummy half.

Despite popular belief that he was "second rate" at other clubs, I don't think he was given a fair crack and he's a cracking little player. Well done to Macca and Bradford for signing him again!

Keep them coming!

I hope Macca doesn't see him as our long term hooker, that would be another step in the direction of mediocrity which we are currently plummeting.

He's a good player, but definatley not a match winner.

Very promising signing if true. He never takes a backward step, is brave as they come, makes good ground and is rarley out injured.

Great and Promising signing.

Ive also heard Bulls are sniffing around Shenton.

The Scott Wheeldon talk was about weeks ago, can't say as I've seen him break any pots but that may be that I haven't seen enough of him. Shenton would be excellent news if true.

Both decent players so I'd be pleased if that were true.

Good signing up Godwin as well.

Scott Wheelden (Hull) a good young prop. But can't help feeling we have enough 'inexperience' in that position. Would like to see a more experienced prop if poss (but to be honest who is there?) Also is there really a future at Bulls for James and Kopjak. Are they a burden or stars of the future??

Very very happy with yet another player signing a LONG contract extension. This is a good sign that we are securing a sturdy foundation of a team for the next few years.

It is also showning that we preparing to invest in the development of players over the coming years.

Well done Macca for setting out your stall.

if we got wheeldon it would be great. i believe that means he wants to play burgess at 2nd row or loose and would be very dangerous from there. but i hope to go we do not get shenton. i think he is a very poor player and is shocking in defence for cas. it would be another michael platt on our hands. he bottles it in games and ok he int too bad going forward but shocking in defence. watch him in his next game and he isnt up to the bulls standard

I think Shonny is definately a departure this year. I'll be shocked if he stays. Quality player but Union will ruin him!

Shenton is decent young centre but I think the regulars will be Evans & Sykes (which isn't all that shabby!). I think we need at least two "world class" signings in the off season. A centre has to be top of the shopping list if Shonny is definately going tho. We need someone young and just as dangerous.

Failure to replace Hape with absolute quality will result as the nail in the coffin in the Bulls demise.

Teams must be shaking in their boots at the thought of lining up against a Bulls backline consisting of Platt, Sykes and Evans.

Evans or Nero will not do.

Shenton's young enough and could fit the bill. As you say Sykes and Evans will be fine. Trouble with youngsters like Shenton you'll have plenty on here rubbing their hands at the thought of slagging him off before he's had time to learn his trade.

I think Harris does not fit in with Maccas style as he appears to want pacey mobile players. I must admit I hadn't considered Richard Moore (from my old town of Keighley!) but a good suggestion as he is making a usefull forward.
